Photostress Testing Device for Diagnosing Retinal Disease
نویسندگان
چکیده
Retinal diseases such as Age-Related Macular Degeneration (ARMD) affect nearly one in three elderly patients. ARMD damages the central vision photoreceptors in the fovea. The Photostress Test is a simple technique for testing for the early effects of ARMD. Here, the illumination sources in a novel self-administered Photostress Testing device were modeled for safety and distribution in illumination software. After satisfying the design constraints in the model, a prototype of the illumination system was fabricated and tested to confirm the modeling results. The resultant prototype can be used to aid in the diagnosis of retinal disease and is well within retinal safety levels. Keyword: photostress tester; Age-Related Macular Degeneration; Badal Lens

Improvement of photostress recovery testing after extracranial-intracranial bypass surgery.
A patient with carotid occlusive disease experienced episodes of light-induced amaurosis in an eye with changes of venous stasis retinopathy. Though his macula appeared normal on examination, the macular photostress test (MPST) was prolonged. After anastomosis of a superficial temporal artery with the middle cerebral artery his symptoms resolved and his MPST returned to normal. The MPST may ser...
متن کاملSuitability and repeatability of a photostress recovery test device, the macular degeneration detector (MDD-2), for diabetes and diabetic retinopathy assessment.
BACKGROUND Diabetic retinopathy can result in impaired photostress recovery time despite normal visual acuity and fundoscopic appearance. The Macular Degeneration Detector (MDD-2) is a novel flash photostress recovery time device. In this study, we examine the repeatability of the MDD-2 in normal and diabetic subjects. METHODS One hundred and ninety one (90 women, 101 men) subjects were recru...

BACKGROUND Diseases affecting the macula, such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic retinopathy and central serous retinopathy can result in impaired photostress recovery time (PSRT) despite normal visual acuity and fundoscopic appearance. The MDD-2 Macular Degeneration Detection Device is a novel flash photostress recovery device. In this study, we examine the repeatability of t...
متن کاملVisual evoked potentials after photostress in patients with primary open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension.
Visual evoked potentials (VEPs) were assessed in basal condition and after photostress in normal subjects, in subjects with ocular hypertension (OHT), and in subjects with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG). The VEPs recorded in basal condition showed that in patients with OHT and POAG a latency of the P100 peak was higher than in controls. The amplitudes were reduced in POAG patients but not i...
متن کاملPhotostress recovery in chronic open angle glaucoma.
Photostress recovery time was measured in 30 eyes from 15 patients with chronic open angle glaucoma, and 30 eyes from 15 individuals of a similar age group with no ophthalmological disorder. The average recovery time in patients with glaucoma was 70.47 (SD 35.39) seconds. The average recovery time in the control population was 41.97 (SD 17.34) seconds. This difference was statistically signific...
